Scripted or non-scripted production
His Hands Produces Scripted and Non-scripted Projects
Many of our clients want to know the difference between scripted and non-scripted productions. The answer in regard to television would be a fictional story line and reality TV. Reality TV is actually written by the subjects featured in the show. It flows based on there comments, actions, or conflicts.
In scripted television, this is known, it’s written in the script. Every word, reaction, and conflict is a known quantity. In reality, the producers may have an idea of what may happen based the circumstance, personalities, etc., but they actual story is unknown.
We treat projects in much the same way, we deal with a known message and position our story around it, or interview people and let the answers write the story. Our productions are created with intent to affect the audience in a particular way, to persuade, encourage, enlighten, or influence to a call to action.
This is normally achieved using comments made by people that the viewer can empathize with or relate to prompting an emotional response. How the comments are captured is where the difference comes in. If the comments are answers to questions that are impromptu and in discussion form, this is non-scripted.
If the comments are written for people to read then it is scripted. There is nothing wrong or bad about either method, and both can be effective, depending on the purpose or call to action for the project. We will work with your team to determine what method would be most effective to achieve the results you require.
